An hour north from Volcano House is Akaka Falls, a magnificent 422 ft waterfall. View the falls from several points along a loop trail that runs through a lush Hawaiian rainforest. The hike is a 0.4-mile uphill footpath, for the most part enjoyed by any skill level hikers. Also visible along the trail is a smaller, though just as stunning, Kahuna Falls. Many times it’s rainy so pack an umbrella just in case! There is an entrance fee, contact the state park for more information.
