Volcano House Hotel Historic Renovation

Dear Friends,

I’m thrilled to announce Volcano House will be launching a revitalization of our guest rooms and hotel facilities in 2013 to meet modern standards of comfort. Guest rooms will feature upgraded furnishings and amenities, and the same spectacular crater and rainforest views that have captivated visitors since 1846.

Revitalization will include bringing Hawaiian cultural events and demonstrations back to Volcano House; upgrading the restaurant, lobby areas, and guest rooms; and introducing updated retail areas with art and crafts from local artisans. We also plan to introduce environmental best management practices, and our updated restaurant menu will be primarily sourced from ingredients that originate on Hawaii Island.

Hawaii Volcanoes Lodge Company will operate both Volcano House hotel and the nearby Namakanipaio Campground, and we will offer limited visitor services during the 8-12 month revitalization period. Reservations are currently being accepted for Namakanipaio Cabin reservations and a limited number of newly-renovated hotel guest rooms. We plan to offer exceptional hospitality to all visitors while working with the National Park Service to create rich visitor experiences and deepen the understanding of Park themes including geology, history, culture and wildlife.

What we won’t be changing is what everyone loves about Volcano House— its unique location on the rim of Kilauea caldera, its tradition of warm Hawaiian hospitality, and the decades of local history built into its walls.
